National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), originally founded in Shanghai in 1896 under the name of Nanyang College, was re-established in Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1958. The University has been the forerunner of science and technology. Subsequently, it has laid a firm foundation for the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP), the “Silicon Valley” of Taiwan.

In recent years, the University has taken a lead in integrating the fields of engineering, medicine and life sciences to effectively explore and deploy in biomedical technologies and in melding green energy developments.
Today, NCTU positions itself as a university of “holistic education, academic excellence, and technological innovation”. NCTU aims to become a hub of global high-tech R&D and an incubator of innovative and creative talents, and therefore, a top university in the world. Our ultimate goal is to establish a “great university” that can identify, challenge and prepare pioneers and leaders to advance human knowledge base and elevate human civilization in quantum scale.
